Body Work

Bodywork therapies are a wonderful way to address both physical and emotional imbalances. Whether you have a past or present injury, a specific medical condition, a musculoskeletal issue, or are under a lot of stress or emotional pressure, massage and specific body treatments can help in correcting the body, relaxing the mind and restoring harmony. Mana offers a range of holistic and specialised bodywork therapies that aim at working with the physical and emotional body to improve overall wellbeing. Whilst the practitioners are qualified and experienced in many body modalities, usually a unique and specific combination of techniques will be designed and incorporated for the individual clients needs following an initial assessment. In addition to achieving a seamless balance of all of the above, we have a special interest and passion in working with reproductive health, as well as pre and postnatal therapies. If you are after a specific treatment or are interested in knowing more about the different styles that the practitioners at Mana incorporate into their practice, below is a brief description of each.

Remedial

Remedial massage is a therapeutic bodywork that focuses firstly on assessing the body and then bringing harmony back to the musculoskeletal system through deep tissue work. It is a beneficial bodywork for those experiencing stress, muscular pain, joint stiffness or recovering from injury.

Ka Huna

Ka Huna is a beautiful massage that originated in the South Pacific. It is performed with a combination of movement, flow, rhythm, breath, loving attention and focus to harmonise the clients’ body, mind and soul. Using hands, forearms and elbows, both soft and deep tissue massage is applied whilst working around the body.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu originated in Japan, and is rooted in Oriental Medicine. It can be beneficial for both specific conditions and as preventative healthcare. A shiatsu treatment includes stretches, gentle manipulation of the joints, and soft but deep pressure on the meridians (energy channels that run along the body), mostly using the thumbs, to release energy blockage and re-establishes the optimal flow of Qi (vital energy). The intention is to bring out the natural self-healing ability that we all posses by nature.

Hot Stone

This beautiful treatment addresses the many levels of healing necessary to restore balance in the body, mind and soul. It combines the long rhythmic strokes of Hawaiian style massage with the gliding of hot stones along the body.

Acupuncture

An integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points along the body’s energy pathways (meridians) to clear energy blockages and encourage the normal flow of energy (Qi) through the body, creating harmony.

Prenatal

A nurturing and soothing massage specifically designed for pregnancy. A prenatal massage aids circulation, relieves aching muscles and releases tension in the nervous system. It also provides deep relaxation, easing stress and tension. Beneficial for mother and baby, a prenatal massage is a beautiful way to support the body and mind through the course of pregnancy.

Pregnancy pillows available with front or side lying as preferred. Induction massage available working with readying points from 37 weeks onwards.
